| | | SYNOPSISThis seminar examines how sustainability, investment, economic security, and technological change are reshaping international economic law and legal practice.
It explores the rise of green regionalism across the EU, the United States, and Asia, emerging sustainability and due diligence obligations affecting deforestation and global supply chains, and the evolving architecture of economic security in ASEAN.
Particular attention will be given to how these developments create new compliance challenges, market-access risks, and strategic considerations for businesses and their legal advisers.
The seminar will also consider how artificial intelligence is transforming legal research in trade and investment law, with attention to both its practical potential and its limitations.
Together, these developments highlight the growing interaction between regulatory risk, sustainability objectives, investment governance, and geopolitical change, and their implications for businesses, governments, and legal practitioners operating across increasingly fragmented regulatory environments. This session is part of the SMU Law Academy “Recent Highlights” series. Designed with the busy practitioner in mind, this series provides participants with a convenient platform to obtain timely and practical bite-sized analysis of the latest developments in various areas of the law. The series will be taught by leading and experienced experts curated from academia and practice. Each topic in the series is distilled into a short-duration online webinar so that busy legal professionals can be effectively updated with the most material developments affecting their practice.
