This module provides an insight into the types and motivations of fraud and the obligations of an insolvency practitioner when faced with circumstances involving fraud. Participants will be introduced to a series of investigation methodology and the importance of forensic services in uncovering valuable evidence for the insolvency practitioner.
This module is part of the Advanced Certificate in Insolvency and Restructuring.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the module, participants will be able to:
- Understand what constitutes fraud and the types and motivations of fraud
- Know the obligations of insolvency practitioners to investigate and report fraud or misdeeds
- Learn about the importance of forensic services to insolvency practitioners
- Apply the forensic investigation approach for fraud
- Gain an overview of the elements of digital forensic and technology

PREREQUISITE
Participants should preferably be a degree holder, in any discipline, and have at least one year of working experience.
ASSESSMENT
As part of the requirement for SkillsFuture Singapore, there will be an assessment conducted at the end of the course. The mode of assessment, which is up to the trainer’s discretion, may be an online quiz, a presentation or based on classroom exercises.
Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Singapore Management University.
SPEAKERS
Eric Poh Tze Li
Eric is a Director in KPMG's Forensic practice, specialising in fraud investigations and forensic data analytics. With over 22 years of experience at KPMG, he has led many forensic investigations, including complex cross-border engagements across Asia. He has extensive experience in applying forensic data analytics to support fraud investigations and has helped organisations implement data-driven fraud detection and monitoring capabilities. Eric currently leads KPMG Singapore's Forensic Data Analytics team, driving the integration of advanced analytics into investigative and risk management processes. In addition to his client work, he contributes to forensic training programmes conducted by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF), focusing on the practical application of forensic data analytics in investigations.
Suresh Nair
Suresh Nair is Managing Director of Nair, Jen and Tan LLC.
Suresh was called to the Bar in 1994 and his main areas of practise are commercial litigation and restructuring & insolvency. Accounting and technical forensic investigations are a common feature of cases handled by Suresh, including cases involving clawback claims by companies in liquidation and cases involving breaches of fiduciary duties by directors and officers of companies.
Suresh has been admitted to the rolls of solicitors of England and Wales and is a Fellow of IPAS. He also serves as a racing steward with the Singapore Turf Club and as a Judicial Officer with the Singapore Rugby Union.
Bryan Tan
Bryan graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2008 with degrees in Law and Commerce. He was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2013.
He has advised and represented clients in some of the most complex restructuring and insolvency matters, including the scheme of arrangement relating to Antanium Resources Pte Ltd and high-stakes, multi-jurisdictional litigation for Group Lease Holdings Pte Ltd (in Liquidation). Recognised as a Future Star by Benchmark Litigation, Bryan is known for delivering practical, commercially-driven solutions that help clients protect value and navigate the challenges corporations face.
He has also been appointed as an advocacy trainer for prospective advocates and solicitors doing the Singapore Bar Examination.
